AWARDS
AWARDS
FOR YOUTH IN FOSTER CARE
The Child Welfare Fund established
the annual Awards for Youth in Foster Care in 1999 to celebrate the
feisty, courageous young people who have turned their lives around
or helped others do the same. These awards are given to help create
a more positive image of foster care youth among agency staff, youth
workers and the general public. Thirty-five youth receive cash awards
between $150 and $1,000. The prize money can be spent however the
winners like, although it is recommended that it be spent for education-related
activities.
The awards are given in June of each year and are administered by
Foster Care Youth United.

in working with families in the child welfare system. A particular
focus of the award is on the Service Plan Review when families and
agencies plan for the services and assistance that families need
to be united with their children. Cash awards of $1,000 are provided
to 15 parent aide/advocates, caseworkers/social workers and supervisors.
Senior management are also acknowledged for their outstanding service.
